Everyday Emotional Health Session

Anxiety & Stress

Anxiety and stress are natural and normal, but these feelings can become problematic if they are persistent or out of our control.

Introduction

Anxiety and stress are common, natural feelings which all of us experience at some point in our lives. For many of us, the COVID-19 pandemic has been an intense period of anxiety, and as restrictions ease and society returns to a pre-COVID state, those feelings may still continue. You may also be anxious or stressed working from home or having to return to the office. Perhaps you feel anxious in a particular situation, or for no apparent reason at all.

What is stress?

Stress can be seen as a reaction to a short-term incident, for example, the nerves felt before taking an exam or speaking to a group of people. Some amount of stress can be healthy and motivating. On the other hand, if we become overwhelmed with stress, it can lead to physical and emotional symptoms, including anxiety.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety shares many of the symptoms of stress, such as worry, irritability, exhaustion, anger and insomnia. With anxiety, the anxious feelings do not dissipate once the 'threat' (e.g. the exam or public speaking) has gone. It can become a chronic reoccurring condition that arises in many ways.

It is normal to experience anxiety alongside other Everyday Emotional Health issues, such as poor sleep.

Session Duration

Your first Everyday Emotional Health session lasts approximately one hour and thirty minutes as it includes a discussion of the consultation form. Following sessions can range from one hour to one hour and thirty minutes.

Recordings

Your session will be recorded and uploaded to your Members' Area page so you can listen to the session and continue therapy at home.

Number of Sessions

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to hypnotherapy. It is very much dependant on the individual and the issues that are being dealt with. Some people see dramatic changes in just a couple of sessions, while others may need five or more. Christopher will recommend if further sessions are required.

How can hypnotherapy help anxiety and stress?

Hypnotherapy is a highly effective method of helping with anxiety and stress. The simple act of practising deep relaxation, including meditation and mindfulness, has been proven to reduce anxious feelings. Hypnotherapy adds to that by introducing therapeutic suggestions to break the patterns that have caused and sustained the anxiety. Repeating positive suggestions changes the program and allows acceptance of thoughts and feelings without judgement. Combined with the inherent relaxation techniques that hypnosis provides enables you to manage and lessen the impact of anxiety and stress as and when it arises.

Anxiety and stress are treated as part of the Everyday Emotional Health series of sessions available at Mindscape Hypnotherapy. Click here to read more about what this means.

Some people experience changes immediately, while others can take time. Reprogramming many years or even a lifetime of anxiety and stress does not always happen overnight. Remember, each session is recorded to enable you to continue therapy and reinforce those positive suggestions at home. Listening at home strengthens the session and helps to make the changes long-term. You will also learn self-hypnosis, supported by an audio recording uploaded to your Members' Area page. Like learning to ride a bicycle, practice and repetition is the key to reprogramming the mind.

If you are already under medical supervision for the treatment of anxiety or stress, please consult your GP before starting a course of hypnotherapy.
